Vespers – The Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ
The pre-celebration of the Ascension of the Lord begins one day before the great feast (on the Wednesday of the sixth week after Easter). The Orthodox Church prepares the faithful through special services, hymns, and prayers from the Pentecostarion that foreshadow the Ascension of our Savior Jesus Christ into heaven. Essential Information: Significance: The liturgical period of spiritual preparation for the feast on Thursday (also known as Ispas).
Order of Service: On this day, specific canons and troparia are read that lift our minds toward God. Useful Resources: You can read the complete order of the service on the Doxologia portal or listen to the Akathist of the Ascension to pray in silence. In popular tradition, this period also marks the end of the Paschal greeting “Christ is Risen!”; the last day on which Christians use it is the Wednesday before the Ascension.
We warmly welcome you to the Chapel of the Saint Thecla Foundation, in a warm and welcoming setting!
