Utrenia – Birth of Saint John the Baptist

On this day, we celebrate the Birth of Saint John the Baptist (Sânzienele – Drăgaica), the Transfer of the Relics of the Holy Great Martyr John the New from Suceava, St. Nicetas of Remesiana, and St. Athanasius of Paros.

The feast of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist reminds us of the coming into the world of the one chosen by God to prepare the way for the Savior and to proclaim the coming of the Kingdom of Heaven. Considered the greatest of the prophets and the Forerunner of the Lord, Saint John was a model of humility, obedience, and courage in bearing witness to the truth. His life and work call us to repentance, spiritual renewal, and drawing closer to God through faith and good deeds. This great feast calls us to follow his example of steadfastness and, like him, to prepare the way of the Lord in our hearts.
