Akathist of Saint Tecla – The Dormition of Saint Anne, Mother of the Most Holy Mother of God

On this day, we commemorate the Dormition of Saint Anne, mother of the Most Holy Mother of God; Saint Eupraxia the Pious; Saint Gregory Kallidis, Archbishop of Heraclea and Redest; the Holy Fathers of the Fifth Ecumenical Council; and Saint Olympias the Pious.

The feast of the Dormition of Saint Anne, honored by the Church on July 25, presents us with the example of one of the most beloved and revered women in the history of salvation: the mother of the Most Holy Theotokos and the biological grandmother of the Savior Jesus Christ. Together with the righteous Joachim, Saint Anne lived a life of faith, prayer, and patience, humbly bearing the trial of childlessness until God heard their prayers and granted them the Virgin Mary, the one chosen to become the Mother of God.

The life of Saint Anne is a testimony to unwavering trust in God’s providence and to the power of persistent prayer. Through her obedience and piety, she became a participant in the fulfillment of God’s plan of salvation, preparing, through the birth and upbringing of the Mother of God, for the Savior’s coming into the world. For this reason, the Church honors her as the protector of the family, of mothers, and of all who place their hope in God’s mercy.

The commemoration of the Dormition of Saint Anne urges us to cultivate patience in the face of trials, to grow stronger in our faith, and to keep alive the hope that God works in each of our lives at the right time. By following her example of humility, love, and complete trust in God’s will, we are called to build families grounded in faith and to pass on the values of the Gospel through our lives and deeds.
