Holy Unction – The Seven Holy Youths of Ephesus – Dorobanți Parish, 166 Calea Dorobanți

On this day, we commemorate the Seven Holy Youths of Ephesus, Saint Tatuil the Martyr, and the Transfer of the Relics of Saint Eudochia the Martyr.

The Seven Holy Youths of Ephesus, commemorated by the Church on August 4, are honored as confessors of the faith and witnesses to God’s power over death. During the persecutions against Christians, these young men chose to remain steadfast in their faith, retreating to a cave to escape the persecution. By God’s will, they fell into a miraculous sleep and awoke nearly two centuries later, at a time when belief in the resurrection of the dead was being questioned, thus becoming a living testimony to the truth preached by the Church.

Their lives show us that God protects those who remain faithful to Him and that the promise of the resurrection and eternal life is the foundation of Christian hope. Through their courage, steadfastness, and trust in God’s providence, the Seven Holy Youths of Ephesus have remained an example of unshakable faith for all generations of Christians.

Honoring these saints urges us to remain steadfast in our witness to Christ, not to lose hope in the face of trials, and to live with the faith that God is the Lord of life and death, and that the general resurrection is the promise we await with joy and confidence.
