Holy Unction – Sts. Flor and Lavru – St. Sophia Parish – 216 Calea Floreasca

On this day, the following are commemorated: Saint John of Rila, Saint Serapion the Martyr, Saint Ermi the Martyr, Saint Leon the Martyr, Saint Arsenius of Paros, Saint Polien the Martyr, the Holy Monks Barnabas and Sophronius, Saint Martyr Lavrus, Saint Martyr Florus, and the Veneration of the Holy Icon of the Mother of God “Pantanassa”—the Deliverer from Cancer.

The Holy Martyrs Flor and Lavru, commemorated by the Church on August 18, are honored for their unwavering faith, pure lives, and the courage with which they bore witness to Christ during times of persecution. Brothers by blood and united in their love for God, they put their skills and labor at the service of their fellow human beings, combining their daily work with the proclamation of the Gospel and with helping those in need. Through their example, they showed that any work performed with faith, honor, and love can become a path to sanctification.

For their steadfastness in the faith and the zeal with which they proclaimed the name of Christ, Saints Florus and Laurus were subjected to numerous torments, ultimately receiving the crown of martyrdom. Their sacrifice has remained throughout the ages a living testimony to the power of faith and the triumph of God’s love over suffering and death.

The commemoration of the Holy Martyrs Florus and Laurus urges us to carry out every task we undertake with responsibility and faithfulness, to remain steadfast in our witness to Christ, and to cultivate love, humility, and a spirit of helping our neighbors. Through their prayers, we ask the Lord to grant us strength in faith, health, and blessings throughout our lives.

We warmly welcome you to the Church of St. Sophia Parish.
