Utrenia – Nativity of the Mother of God
On this day, the following are celebrated: the Nativity of the Mother of God, the Veneration of the Holy Icon of the Mother of God of Pochaev, and the Veneration of the Holy Icon of the Mother of God “of the Sign” (of the Kursk Root).
The Feast of the Nativity of the Mother of God, celebrated on September 8, is the first major feast of the church year and one of the most beloved feasts dedicated to the Most Holy Mother of God. According to Holy Tradition, after many years of prayer and patience, the righteous Joachim and Anna were granted a child by God—the Holy Virgin Mary, who was chosen to become the Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ. Her birth marked the beginning of a new stage in the history of salvation, for through her the Savior was to come into the world.
This great feast reminds us that God hears the prayers of those who seek Him with faith and that, even when hope seems humanly lost, His work can bring joy and blessing. The Mother of God remains for us a model of purity, humility, and obedience, and the celebration of her Nativity calls us to welcome God’s work with open hearts and to preserve the values of the Christian faith within our families and communities.
We warmly welcome you to the Chapel of the Saint Thecla Foundation, in a warm and welcoming setting!
