Utrenia, Holy Liturgy – St. Sophia the Martyr – St. Sophia Parish – 216 Calea Floreasca
On this day, the following are commemorated: Saint Dionysius, Bishop of the White Fortress-Ismail; Saint Sophia the Martyr and her daughters: Pistis, Elpis, and Agapis; Saint Heraclidius, Bishop of Tamasos; and the Veneration of the Holy Icon of the Mother of God “of Saint Macarius.”
Saint Sophia the Martyr is honored together with her three daughters—Pistis, Elpis, and Agapis, meaning Faith, Hope, and Love—who received the crown of martyrdom for their unwavering confession of Christ. A loving mother and a woman of great faith, Saint Sophia raised her children in the love of God, strengthening them not to renounce Christ even when they were threatened with torture and death. Through their courage, the three young women became witnesses to the Gospel, and their mother remained an example of faith and spiritual strength.
The example of Saint Sophia and her daughters reminds us of the power that faith can have within the family and of parents’ responsibility to instill the values of the Gospel in their children’s hearts. The names of the three martyrs—Faith, Hope, and Love—point us toward the three virtues that must remain the foundation of Christian life. By honoring them, we are called to remain steadfast in faith, to keep hope in God, and to live in love for our neighbor.
We warmly welcome you to the Chapel of the Saint Thecla Foundation, in a warm and welcoming setting!
