Vespers, Litany, and the Akathist of St. Thecla—The Conception of St. John the Baptist

On this day, we celebrate: the Conception of Saint John the Baptist, Saint Polixenia the Pious, Saint Xanthippe the Pious, Saint Iraida the Martyr, and the Veneration of the Holy Icon of the Mother of God “Slovenskaia.”

The Feast of the Conception of Saint John the Baptist reminds us of God’s wondrous work in the lives of the righteous Zechariah and Elizabeth, who, though they had reached old age and had no children, remained steadfast in faith and prayer. The angel Gabriel announced to Zechariah that his prayer had been answered and that Elizabeth would give birth to a son, who would be John, the Forerunner and Baptist of the Lord. The birth and ministry of Saint John were to prepare the way for the coming of the Savior and to call the people to repentance and a return to God.

This feast speaks to us of the power of prayer, of patience in trials, and of the fact that God’s plan is fulfilled in His own time. The life of Saint John the Baptist, even before his birth, is linked to Christ’s redemptive work. As we honor his conception, we are called to accept God’s will with trust and to prepare our souls for the encounter with Christ through repentance, faith, and good deeds.

We warmly welcome you to the Chapel of the Saint Thecla Foundation, in a warm and welcoming setting!
