Confession — The Bringing of the Relics of Saint Andrew the Apostle to Iași

On this day, the following are celebrated: The Bringing of the Relics of Saint Andrew the Apostle to Iași, Saint Carp the Martyr, Saint Papyl the Martyr, Saint Agatonica the Martyr, Saint Florentius the Martyr, Saint Agathodorus the Martyr, Saint Chrysa the Martyr, the Veneration of the Holy Icon of the Mother of God “Sedmiezerskaya,” the Transfer of the Icon of the Mother of God from Iviron to Moscow, and the Veneration of the Holy Icon of the Mother of God “Seven Lakes.”

The transfer of the relics of Saint Andrew the Apostle to Iași is a special celebration for the Romanian Orthodox Church and for all Romanian believers. In 1996, the reliquary containing the head of Saint Andrew the Apostle was brought from the Cathedral in Patras, Greece, to Iași, as part of a pilgrimage marking the feast of Saint Paraskevi.

This moment has remained in the memory of the Church and the faithful as one of great joy and blessing. Saint Andrew the Apostle is especially honored as the Patron Saint of Romania, as he is the one who, according to Church tradition, preached the Gospel throughout our country. The bringing of his holy relics to Iași reminds us of the deep connection between our faith and the apostolic witness and calls us to keep alive the faith we received from our forebears.
