Holy Unction – St. Joel the Prophet; St. Martyr Uar; St. Cleopatra; St. John of Rila the Venerable – St. Sophia Parish, 216 Calea Floreasca

On this day, the following are commemorated: the Holy Prophet Joel, the Holy Martyr Uar, the Holy Venerable John of Rila, Saint Cleopatra, the Holy Martyr Eusebius the Deacon, and the Holy Martyr Felix the Priest.

On October 19, the Church commemorates the Holy Prophet Joel, the Holy Martyr Uar, Saint Cleopatra, and the Holy Venerable John of Rila, each of whom is a model of steadfast faith. Saint Joel the Prophet called the people to repentance and to return to God, while also proclaiming the work of the Holy Spirit.

Saint Uar the Martyr received the crown of martyrdom for his faith, while Saint Cleopatra is commemorated for the love and care with which she honored the memory of those who bore witness to Christ. Saint John of Rila, one of Bulgaria’s great saints, chose a life of solitude and prayer, becoming a model of monastic asceticism. Their commemoration reminds us that holiness can take many forms, but it has the same foundation: faith, prayer, and love for God.

We warmly welcome you to the Chapel of the Saint Thecla Foundation, in a warm and welcoming setting!
