Confession – St. Demetrius the Great Martyr, the Myrrh-Giver

On this day, we commemorate: Saint Demetrius the Great Martyr, the Myrrh-Giver, and the Synaxis of the Holy Military Martyrs.

Saint Demetrius the Great Martyr, the Myrrh-Giver, is one of the most beloved saints of Orthodoxy, particularly venerated in Thessaloniki and in many Orthodox countries. He was a devout young man and a highly educated individual who held an important position in the city of Thessalonica. Despite his status, Saint Demetrius was not ashamed to confess Christ, and for this faith he was imprisoned and then killed.

His name is associated with numerous miracles, and his holy relics are preserved in Thessaloniki. The name “The Myrrh-Giver” refers to the fragrant myrrh that flows from his holy relics as a sign of God’s grace. The commemoration of Saint Demetrius inspires us to courage, steadfastness, and the confession of our faith, as well as to the confidence that God works through His saints and brings comfort to those who draw near to Him in faith.

We warmly welcome you to the Chapel of the Saint Thecla Foundation, in a warm and welcoming setting!
