Agape and catechesis – The 14th Sunday after Pentecost

On this day we celebrate: the miracle of Saint Michael the Archangel in Colossae, Saint Martyr Macarius, Saint Martyr Eudoxius, the Veneration of the Holy Icon of the Mother of God “Arapet” (from Arabia), and the 14th Sunday after Pentecost (the Parable of the Wedding Feast of the King’s Son).

The 14th Sunday after Pentecost presents us with the Gospel of the Parable of the King’s Son’s Wedding, through which our Savior Jesus Christ speaks to us about God’s call to all people and about the spiritual preparation necessary to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The king who prepares the banquet symbolizes the love and goodness of God, Who calls people to the joy of communion with Him. The refusal of those invited—preoccupied with their worldly cares and interests—reminds us how easily we can lose sight of God’s call when we place the transitory above the eternal.

The wedding garment that those invited to the feast must wear represents a pure life, active faith, and good deeds through which a person responds to God’s call. It is not enough to be called to faith; we are also called to prepare ourselves spiritually—through repentance, prayer, and love—for our encounter with Christ. The Gospel thus reminds us that the Kingdom of God is a gift, but also a responsibility that we must receive with a pure heart.

This Sunday urges us not to delay our response to God’s call and not to let the cares of this world distract us from what is truly important. We are called to clothe our souls in the garments of faith, love, and good deeds, and to live each day as a preparation for our encounter with Christ, holding fast to the hope of eternal joy in the Kingdom of God.

We warmly welcome you to the Chapel of the Saint Thecla Foundation, in a warm and welcoming setting!
