Holy Liturgy – Saint John Jacob of Neamț
On this day, we commemorate Saint John Jacob of Neamț, the Forefeast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, Saint Nona, mother of Saint Gregory the Theologian, Saint Fabian, Bishop of Rome, and Saint Evsigne the Martyr.
Saint John Jacob of Neamț, commemorated by the Church on August 5, is one of the most beloved Romanian saints of recent times, a chosen ascetic who devoted his entire life to prayer, humility, and love for God. Seeking spiritual perfection from a young age, he embraced monastic life at Neamț Monastery, and later withdrew to the Holy Land, where he lived in the solitude of the Hozeva Desert, devoting himself ceaselessly to prayer, fasting, and the study of the Holy Scriptures.
Through his ascetic life, his love for his neighbor, and his numerous spiritual writings, Saint John Jacob became a true guide for souls, urging the faithful toward repentance, humility, and complete trust in God’s providence. After his passing into eternity, his body was found intact and fragrant, bearing witness to the holiness of the life he lived and the work of divine grace.
The example of Saint John Jacob of Neamț teaches us that closeness to God is attained through persistent prayer, purity of soul, and patience in trials. Honoring him urges us to follow his example of faith, humility, and love for Christ, asking for his intercession for our spiritual strengthening and for the growth of our faith in our daily lives.
We warmly welcome you to the Chapel of the Saint Thecla Foundation, in a warm and welcoming setting!
