Holy Liturgy – St. Dimitrios the New, Patron Saint of Bucharest; St. Nestor the Martyr
On this day, the following saints are celebrated: Saint Dimitrios the New, the Protector of Bucharest; Saint Nestor the Martyr; Saint Olga of Alaska; and Saint Lup the Martyr of Thessaloniki.
Saint Dimitrios the New, the Protector of Bucharest, is one of the most beloved saints of the Romanian people. A native of the village of Basarabov, located in the Lom River valley, Saint Dimitrios chose from a young age the path of asceticism, prayer, and withdrawal from the world. He lived a life of humility, fasting, and vigil, and after his passing, God miraculously revealed his holy relics.
The transfer of his holy relics to Bucharest has, over time, made Saint Demetrius one of the great protectors of the capital. Today, the faithful venerate his relics in the Patriarchal Cathedral, asking for help, healing, and strength. On the same day, we also commemorate Saint Nestor the Martyr, known for the courage with which he confessed his faith in Christ. The commemoration of these two saints calls us to two essential virtues of the Christian life: humility and courage, through which a person draws closer to God and remains steadfast in the faith.
We warmly welcome you to the Chapel of the Saint Thecla Foundation, in a warm and welcoming setting!
