Holy Liturgy – St. Longinus the Centurion

On this day, the following are commemorated: Saint Longinus the Centurion, the Holy Martyr, Saint Terentius the Holy Martyr, Saint Domnin the Holy Martyr, Saint Dometius the Holy Martyr, Saint Leontius the Holy Martyr, and Saint Mal the Venerable.

Saint Longinus the Centurion is one of those saints whose life is directly linked to the Passion and Resurrection of the Savior. According to Church tradition, Longinus was the centurion who witnessed the crucifixion of Christ and who, upon seeing what had happened, confessed His divinity. From a man who witnessed the Cross, he became a witness and servant of Christ.

His life shows us that an encounter with Christ can profoundly change the human heart. Saint Longinus did not remain merely a witness to a moment in history, but received the truth of Christ and bore witness to it with his own life. His commemoration urges us not to pass by God’s work indifferently, but to have the courage to recognize the truth, to bear witness to it, and to live it faithfully.
