Holy Liturgy – The Beheading of St. John the Baptist

On this day, we celebrate: the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist, the Holy Martyr Sabina of Rome.

The Feast of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist, celebrated by the Church on August 29, presents us with the example of the greatest of the prophets and the Forerunner of the Lord, who sealed his witness to the truth with the sacrifice of his life. Saint John the Baptist ceaselessly preached repentance, calling people to turn back to God and preparing the way for the coming of the Savior Jesus Christ. With the same boldness, he rebuked injustice and sin, without fearing worldly power, remaining faithful to the truth until his death.

His martyrdom, which took place by order of King Herod, at the request of Herodias, and through the intercession of Salome, is a testimony to courage, integrity, and steadfastness in the faith. Through his sacrifice, Saint John the Baptist teaches us that God’s truth must be proclaimed with firmness, even when it entails suffering or sacrifice.

This day of remembrance is also a day of fasting and contemplation, urging us toward repentance, self-restraint, and the examination of our own consciences. As we honor Saint John the Baptist, we are called to follow his example of humility, courage, and faithfulness to God, asking him to intercede for the strengthening of our faith and for the strength to bear witness to the truth of the Gospel in all circumstances.

We warmly welcome you to the St. Tecla Foundation Chapel, where you’ll find a warm and welcoming atmosphere!
