Holy Liturgy – St. Hieromonk Theodosius of Brazi

On this day, the following are commemorated: Saint Theodosius the Holy Martyr of Brazi Monastery, Metropolitan of Moldavia; Saint Phocas the Holy Martyr, Bishop of Sinope; Saint Cosmas of Zografu; Saint Sophronius, Bishop of Vratsa; Saint Isaac the Martyr; Saint Martyr Martin, and the Assembly of Saints of Tula.

Saint Hierarch and Martyr Theodosius of Brazi, Metropolitan of Moldavia, is one of the great hierarchs and confessors of the Romanian Orthodox Church. From his youth, he was drawn to the monastic life, and through his zeal for prayer, for the proper order of the monasteries, and for the defense of the faith, he was called to the episcopal ministry. He first served as Bishop of Rădăuți and Bishop of Roman, and in 1674 he became Metropolitan of Moldavia, dedicating his entire life to the service of the Church and the faithful.

Saint Theodosius was a great lover of churches and monasteries, concerned with the proper order of monastic life and the strengthening of the faithful. For his steadfastness and his defense of the Church’s rights, he was persecuted and suffered a martyr’s death at Brazi Monastery. His example remains a testimony to the courage to defend the truth and to a shepherd’s responsibility to devote his life to the service of his flock. The Church honors him today as a martyr-hierarch and intercessor before God for those who seek his help with faith.
