Holy Unction – St. Chiriac the Confessor – Dorobanți Parish – Calea Dorobanți 166
On this day, the following are commemorated: Saint Tryphon the Martyr, Saint Cyriacus the Hermit, Saint Petronia the Martyr, and Saint Gudelia the Martyr.
Saint Chiriac the Hermit is honored by the Church as a great ascetic and lover of the monastic life, a model of prayer, patience, and steadfastness. A native of Corinth, the son of a priest and a relative of the city’s bishop, Saint Cyriacus was drawn from a young age to reading the Holy Scriptures and to the spiritual life. At the age of eighteen, he went to Jerusalem and entered monastic life, spending many years in various communities and devoting himself to prayer, fasting, and obedience.
After many years of monastic life, Saint Cyriacus withdrew to the wilderness, where he led a harsh life of asceticism and prayer. He was known for his zeal, his love for God, and his care for those in suffering, and he also acquired the gift of healing the sick. Until his advanced old age, he remained steadfast in his labors, always devoted to prayer and spiritual ministry.
The example of Saint Cyriacus reminds us that closeness to God is attained through patience, prayer, and perseverance. His veneration urges us not to let ourselves be overcome by complacency or the fleeting cares of life, but to ceaselessly seek spiritual matters, placing our hope in God and working with faith for the salvation of our souls.
We warmly welcome you to the Chapel of the Saint Thecla Foundation, in a warm and welcoming setting!
