Holy Unction – St. Niphon the Hierarch
On this day, we commemorate: Saint Niphon, Patriarch of Constantinople, and Saint Euphulus the Great Martyr, Archdeacon.
Saint Niphon, Patriarch of Constantinople, commemorated by the Church on August 11, is honored as a great shepherd of Orthodoxy, a tireless defender of the true faith, and a guide to the spiritual life. Through his wisdom, pastoral zeal, and love for God and people, he contributed to strengthening the Church in times of trial, remaining an example of steadfastness, humility, and self-sacrificing service.
The life of Saint Niphon is also closely linked to the history of Wallachia, where he was received with great honor by Saint Voivode Neagoe Basarab and where he played a special role in organizing and strengthening church life. Through his ministry, he supported the proper order of the Church, guided the clergy and the faithful, and left a priceless spiritual legacy for Romanian Orthodoxy. For the holiness of his life and his wisdom, God has glorified him, and his relics have become a source of blessing and comfort for those who venerate him with faith.
The example of Saint Niphon urges us to remain steadfast in the true faith, to live in obedience to the Church’s teachings, and to serve God with humility, love, and responsibility. Through his intercession, we ask the Lord to grant peace, unity, and spiritual strength to the Church and to all the faithful.
We warmly welcome you to the Chapel of the Saint Thecla Foundation, in a warm and welcoming setting!
