Holy Unction – Saints Danil and Misail of Turnu Monastery; Saint Haritina the Martyr
On this day, the following are commemorated: Saint Misail the Pious of Turnu Monastery, Saint Daniil the Pious of Turnu Monastery, Saint Evdochim of Vatopedi, Saint Haritina the Martyr, Saint John Mavropous, Metropolitan of Evhaita, the Synod of the Holy Hierarchs of Moscow, Saint Damian the Healer of the Pechersk Lavra, and Saint Mamelta the Martyr.
The Holy Monks Daniil and Misail of Turnu Monastery are two figures who chose the path of withdrawal from the world, prayer, and asceticism. Their commemoration directs our thoughts toward the Romanian monastic tradition and toward those who sought peace of mind in order to draw closer to God.
Their veneration is closely linked to Turnu Monastery, one of the most important monastic settlements in our country. In 1676, Metropolitan Varlaam of Wallachia built a stone-and-brick church here, placing the relics of the Venerable Daniil and Misail beneath it. Their lives remind us that holiness is attained through patience, prayer, and steadfastness, and that the peace sought by the faithful does not mean fleeing the world, but drawing closer to God.
We warmly welcome you to the Chapel of the Saint Tecla Foundation, in a warm and welcoming setting!
