Utrenia – The 23rd Sunday after Pentecost; Sts. Marcian the Evangelist and Martyr; St. Tavita the Confessor
On this day we commemorate: Saint Martyr Marcian, Saint Martyr Martirios, Saint Martyr Chrysaph, Saint Pious Tavita, Saint Martyr Valerian, and the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost—The Healing of the Possessed Man in the Region of the Gerasenes.
The 23rd Sunday after Pentecost presents us with the miracle of the healing of the demon-possessed man in the region of the Gerasenes. The encounter between the tormented man and Christ becomes a testimony to God’s power to free man from what enslaves him and separates him from his true freedom. Christ lifts up the man who had been isolated from the community and restores his dignity and the opportunity to return to the midst of his loved ones.
On this same day, we commemorate the Holy Martyrs Marcian and Martyrie, as well as the Holy Pious Tavita—different examples of faith and service to one’s neighbor. This Sunday’s Gospel reminds us that an encounter with Christ never leaves a person unchanged: where there is suffering, fear, and bondage, God can bring healing and freedom. We, in turn, are called not to remain indifferent to those who are suffering, but to become people through whom God’s love and mercy can reach others.
We warmly welcome you to the Chapel of the Saint Thecla Foundation, in a warm and welcoming setting!
