The Turn of the Year – Prayer, Thanksgiving, and Hope
At the turn of the year, on the evening of December 31, at 11 p.m., the hearts of believers gathered in prayer to thank God for all the blessings received and to ask for strength in the trials to come. It was a moment of deep silence and contemplation, in which each soul placed its hope in the care of the Most High.
With humble heart, we took to heart the words full of truth spoken by the righteous Job: „The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” These became for us a confession of faith and a lesson in patience, reminding us that everything is subject to God’s will and that every trial carries a blessing in secret.
The first Holy Liturgies of the new year were celebrated on January 1 and 2, when we also celebrated St. Seraphim of Sarov, the great teacher of love and unceasing prayer. His life of sacrifice and asceticism was a living example to us, showing us that true power springs from prayer, obedience, and humility.
Saint Seraphim reminds us that „gain inner peace and thousands will be saved around you.” He prayed incessantly for years, on a rock, in the wilderness, with tears and patience, showing that peace of heart comes from steadfastness and faith, and its fruits overflow onto those around us.
After Holy Mass, the faithful were invited to a meal, in a spirit of peace and joy, extending the communion of the church into a fraternal gathering. It was a beginning of the year marked by peace, gratitude, and hope, a promise that, walking together with God, every step becomes a blessing.
